SFU Certificate Program for CED Professionals

"The whole program has really been a huge benefit to me. I like the format, having two days and then an assignment; the assignments have been valuable and applicable. Good, good, good."

- Kevin Koopmans, Community Futures South Fraser

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The SFU Certificate Program for Community Economic Development (CED) Professionals provides the only CED training in Western Canada aimed at mid-career professionals. For more information, download the 2010-2011 brochure. For complete information, please visit www.sfu.ca/cscd/ced

In 2007, the Canadian CED Network and the Centre for Sustainable Community Development formed a partnership to increase the impact and reach of the program. Since then, we have introduced the following innovations:

  • $10,000 annual bursary program made possible by equal investments from Coast Capital Savings, the Vancity Community Foundation and the Canadian CED Network. The bursary program provides $1000 bursaries to students annually. Our next intake of applications is scheduled for spring 2010.
  • We have also expanded the program to Alberta. Next year (2010-2011), in partnership with the Town of High River, we are offering the program in High River, Alberta which is 30 minutes from Calgary. Click here to download the program brochure.
  • Partnered with Community Futures in BC to deliver the program via video-conferencing to Northern and rural communities. For more information on this offering download the program brochure. For complete information, please visit www.sfu.ca/cscd/ced/regional.htm
  • Introduced online registration to reduce costs and increase financial sustainability of the program.

The partners are working towards creating additional benefits to students and alumni by providing access to the benefits of membership in the Canadian CED Network principally by networking students and alumni directly with over 600 people and organizations in every region across Canada in the field of community economic development.
